THE REALITY
ON THE GROUND

Tunisia holds a rich Christian history dating back to the early Church — Tertullian and Augustine were North Africans. Yet centuries of invasions and the rise of Islam have led to a dramatic decline. Today, the population is 99% Muslim, with Christians making up less than 1%. Indigenous believers often gather in secret due to the risk of persecution and social rejection.

Since the 2010 Arab Spring, Tunisia has faced growing influence of Islamic fundamentalism and increasing restrictions on religious minorities. The environment for the Church has become more challenging, with greater surveillance and social pressure on those who leave Islam.

Despite these challenges, there is a noted spiritual openness among the younger generation who are seeking hope and freedom. Many young Tunisians are disillusioned with both political Islam and secular nationalism — creating a window of spiritual hunger that the Gospel can speak directly into.

ACTION SPORTS

Action sports are becoming a vital bridge for community building in Tunisia. Along the Mediterranean coast, activities such as surfing, windsurfing, and kiteboarding are gaining popularity. In urban centers like Tunis and La Marsa, skateboarding is attracting youth, supported by the country's first concrete skatepark and various DIY spots. These communities offer unique opportunities for meaningful connection and the sharing of faith.

SCRIPTURE

"Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation."

— Mark 16:15
